"Socialist" and "Morally Challanged" are titles that have been given to people who have expressed any opinion on the healthcare issue. It seems to be an issue in which people passionately debate among their closest family and friends- it also seems to be a topic with no inbetween, either you are ready for a complete government takeover or you wish for poor, sick children to die in the streets. But isn't the real solution somewhere within all these extremes? We wouldn't know because we are to busy yelling at eachother..
It's human nature to create strong opinions, especially about topics that directly effect their well-being. The only problem is passionate speech often becomes angry speech. It is usually provoked by being told that your opinion is "retarded" or "stupid". When humans are told they are wrong, it's a quick and easy switch in using intelligence in a debate to using personal attacks on your opponet.
Arguments quickly become filled with "You're stupid!" and name calling- "Socialist" or "Black hearted"- and no longer is the actual issue.. well, an issue. The only issue now is who can irritate the other more and who can "win" the debate by calling the other out.
The right to free speech is one of the freedom's that makes America great. But when concerning certain topics, this free speech is often pressed to the limit. I'm not saying that people should not have the right to express how they feel about others or their opinions on other people's opinions, but I do believe that as citizens of the United States, we should show eachother respect. Health care is something that is important in every single person's life- that is why it is such an issue, people want what is best for themselves.. when they see a logical argument getting in the way of their needs being met, of course they are going to put it down. But in all honesty people, can't we have a spirited debate without the name calling and angry speech? Do we really think we are accomplishing anything? Can't we just focus on what is important? You know.. Healthcare?
