So Maybe You Aren't The Next Micheal Jordan

I was excited and interested to hear the speech that Obama gave Tuesday- there had been so much hype about it and that alone intrigued my intrest- so at about 12 on Tuesday, September 8th- Mr. Cromwell turned on the TV. This was the speech that had so many people talking, debating, and even keeping their kids home from school. This was it.

Okay, so I didn't really think it was all that special- a standard "Stay in School, Kids!" kind of speech, but Obama did use some interesting language and tone while addressing the kids of America. "iPhone, Xbox, Micheal Jordan" were all mentioned- relating to children while speaking to them is crucial. If kids are not entertained while somebody is talking- they fall asleep, I know this from experience. Obama captured his audience, with questions and pop culture references. He made it feel like he was talking to you- like you were hanging out and having some lunch or something. Basically, he kept the audience involved. I have to say that he was very realistic in the reasons that he gave for staying in school. I think it tooks guts not to give that overused line, "You can be whatever you put your mind to." He instead reiterated the fact that we can't be successful with out schooling and that education is important in living a productive life and serving ourselves, families, and country.

Though probably not the richest speech ever given, I think it was an important one. He got his message across. Stay in school to be successful. And he got it across in the most appropriate way possible- with a casual tone and a couple of jokes.
