Obama's Speech

No matter your political views, it is hard not to admit that some people are much better public speakers. This is especially the case with our current President Obama. I may or may not agree with his policies (I won't discuss that here) but I do believe that he is a very talented speaker. As he showed in his speech last Tuesday, he realized that he had to make an effort to relate to his audience. He made references to parts of current culture that students can relate to easily, such as xbox and the iPhone. He was also able to relate to the idea that students may not have the easiest circumstances under which to excel in school by describing his mom's struggles to make sure that he got a education under less than ideal circumstances. Also, even before the actual speech, he was able to grab the attention of younger viewers by acting like what he is: the youngest president we have ever had. He was very relaxed and gave off an air of confidence; confidence that we, the students, could carry the weight of the world on our shoulders if we would put our minds to it.
