For me, anger has almost always been ineffective, it never helps me. I used to argue with people when I was younger but it didn't get me anywhere. I think that most people are very close-minded about their opinions which makes it hard for anyone to persuade the other side. Anger only gets in the way because it blinds them from thinking about other possibilities. Instead, they just focus on what they believe in and their anger grows stronger and stronger. This leads to ad hominem attacks, just to try and make the other person back off. Eventually, people end up at the same point they had started at, and nothing had ever been achieved.
At the same time however, I do realize that anger can have beneficial outcomes. They just never happen to me. When people get angry, they become more impulsive. When you don't think, you act on instincts, which might be what you aimed for in the first place. Anger opens new doors and if you don't explore them, you might never find out what could have happened.
