Obama: Educaiton

Although this may be obvious, but the biggest thing that Obama does, I believe, is that he use the words 'you' and 'we' a lot. He address the kids in schools directly. He doesn't say, 'kids have the responsibility of doing their homework,' he scan the audience in the room he has and points, 'you have the responsibility of doing your homework.' It's a simple thing, and Obama probably did it unconsciously but it's the most effective part of his message.

Obama has makes constant references to the country, the responsibility to the country. When he says we have a responsibility to ourselves, I'm like yeah, yeah, ok heard that a million times. But Obama follows it up with a 'and a responsibility to your country,' I'm like whoah ah, big deal here. I'm going to fail my country? I might want to start doing my homework huh? It's that big scale importance that affects the minds of his audience as well.

Obama also does well with his reference to specific things that he includes in his speech (xbox, Michael Jordan ext.) These are common things that kids think about a lot. I think his quote from Michael Jordan at the end as extremely effect, 'I've failed many times and that's the reason I succeed.' I've heard numerous times from peers, 'i tried that' or 'it didn't work out.' There are millions of things that kids try and down succeed the first time. This quote itself is a great one, pushing kids to try try try again, but coming from Michael Jordan and out of the lips of the Unites States Presided was done to make the point even more influential.
