Obama's Speech

I don't really understand this whole uproar about Obama's Adress to the Students of America. Apparently many parents have taken offense to Obama's speech and having been opting their students out. The man is simply stating that students should work hard, do their homework, and be successful and overcome their hardships. What's so bad about that?
Compared to the usual Obama presentation, this one was presented in a much simpler style. This speech was more of a one-on-one conversation than a world-shaking speech. Obama considers his audience and chooses to use shorter and simpler words rather than the lengthy and complicated ones he is prone to use usually.
Also, by using an anecdote about his hard life as a child, Obama draws in the younger audience with ethos. Obama says that he was once a kid who had his own worries and thus the listeners tend to take his view more readily.
