Aight. I’m going to take the totally cheap way out and go with the last little question at the end. The alternative one.
One of the biggest problems I have with speech is when I shut down during conversations with my parents and the only thing I say is “I don’t know.” This causes them to get increasingly furious with me and the situation compounds it self and escalates and grows and mutates into something so much bigger than it started as. This happens a lot whenever I get into an argument with my parents or get in trouble with them. For instance, my parents decided that they would let me sleep in an extra hour on certain school days by taking me to school themselves instead of having me ride the bus. The bus arrives at my stop at 6:13 AM. I have to wake up every morning at 5:15 to shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, and walk to my stop. Then, the bus drives around to other stops for over an hour before finally arriving at school at 7:25. My parents decided that they could let me sleep in for an hour some days and take me to school themselves. I declined their offer and they asked me why. Instead of simply replying that I did not want to mess with their schedules, I said, “I don’t know.” This lead to a half-hour argument that involved me repeating, “I don’t know” and them saying that if I did not have a reason, then I would not have said no in the first place.
Moral: Use your words. Don’t act like a three year old and stubbornly shut down.
You lost The Game. Take that.
