Fighting Fair

After all these years of formal government, the method of making a crucial decision has remained relatively constant. For the process to ensue, a divisive issue must be taken into consideration. Then, like crazed beasts fighting for their lives, the two sides strike at each other without remorse as foam spills from their mouths and claws deal devastating blows. The dividing issue of today regarding heathcare is no exception.

Why do we continue to bash heads over issues like this? In my opinion, the brand of "debate" we use for these situations is intolerable. What we hear from the participants are fiery words that say much more about the alternative choice and little about the issue at hand. When words like "socialist" come into play, it's no longer a fair fight. One side has fabricated a negative connection for the other that is intended to take our minds off the real issue.

I think that people get so caught up in these issues, so rigidly fixed on their opinion, that they won't let any barriers stand in their way. The argument becomes a matter of life and death, and when the situation is so dire, why fight fair?

And so, hateful words are carelessly used, complete nonsense is pulled out of thin air (DEATH panels? Come ON!), the head bashing makes a few headlines, and then a decision is finally made. By then, unfortunately, another hot-button issue is awaiting a decision, and the cycle starts anew.
