My attempt at satire...

Think of a couple you know.
The image in your head is probably of a semi-attractive girl and a semi-attractive guy. Or maybe it’s a drop-dead beautiful woman and a stunningly handsome man. Or maybe both of them are hideous, or they’re both men, or they’re really indistinctive looking. What they look like individually doesn’t matter much- it’s how they look together. How many couples are there where their attractiveness isn’t close to equal? It’s a little depressing; people settle for what they can get.
But how amazing would it be if that wasn’t true? It would be a great world, where Miss America was in love with a computer geek and the football star dated the bookworm. What if everyone didn’t just subconsciously accept their mediocre love lives and got someone they thought was the most beautiful person on Earth?
That could happen. All we would have to do is separate the ugly from the beautiful at birth. This might sound unreasonable- is it really worth it to take kids away from their parents just so they can end up with someone who is moderately more attractive to them? I say it is. If people want to lead happy lives they have to make some sacrifices. All of the children deemed as ugly will be isolated, and taught that our current standard of beauty is beautiful. They’ll learn that they’re ugly, but that some far-off seemingly unattainable standard for looks exists. All of the beautiful kids will be taught that ugly is beautiful. They, too, would suffer from some self-esteem issues, but it would be worth it, because when they’re all old enough the ugly and the beautiful would come together, living in normal society again. And they’d all find someone who would think they’re the most beautiful person on Earth, something none of them would’ve ever heard before.
Everyone would have painful childhoods, but if they can get over them, they’d live quite happy adulthoods.
