a CRAZY proposition

The United States economy has been going downhill for the past few years and nobody has come up with a good solution to the problem. The government is handing out large sums of money to corporations so they don't have to downsize and lay off thousands of people. It seems like everyone is looking for a complicated solution to this problem when the answer is sitting right in front of them. I propose, that the United States legalize all drugs for recreational use and that the government be the only vendors of such drugs.

The government spends billions of dollars every year trying to prevent the use, transportaion, and manufacturing of drugs. If the government started producing all the drugs, then the buyers would sees buying from their shady drug dealers and buy from government approved vendors. This way users will be able to buy drugs without worrying weather or not they are laced and they wont have to worry about being harmed by their dealers.

Many will argue that if all drugs are readily available, wouldn't the usage of such drugs increase and there be more moralities and addictions? There is a possibility that drug addictions will increase temporarilly, but it will effective in the long run. By bringing drug users into the open, everyone will be able to see firsthand how drugs affect the lives of users. Some more harmful drugs, like meth, will result in the death of a few, but eventually Americans will see firsthand how harmful these drugs are and will eventually stop buying them. Once everyone realizes how harmful they are, the government can make these drugs illegal again, Americans would have no interest in using the drugs, the government won't be burdened with the cost of fighting a drug war because the population wont be buying them, and they will have profited to boot.

The money gained can be used to pay off the national debt, stop world hunger, you get the idea.
