"Boat Music"

In my cd case I have about 15 CDs with "Boat Music" scribbled on them. A lot of you know what I mean when I say that I'm going to "the boat"- because you've experienced long, sunny days on Laurel, Cumberland, Kentucky, Cave Run, or Harrington..

Anyway, I wanted to share some "boat songs" for my mine play list.

Mr. Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra

If you've never listened to ELO, seriously, give them a try.. This is probably their only recognizable song (at least to our generation), but I HIGHLY recommend their album "Out Of The Blue". Anyway, this song is peppy and upbeat and happy, and about Mr. Blue Sky.. could it get much better?

Walkin' On the Sun - Smash Mouth

In the 90's Smash Mouth was pretty much the coolest band around.. (Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me, I aint the sharpest tool in the shed.. come on, I know your about to make an L and put it on your forehead) and this is my favorite song they did. The lyrics are really funny and catchy.. It's upbeat and fun to sing along to.. And it's just an all around good song.

When the Sun Goes Down - Kenny Chesney

Kenny Chesney, along with some other current country artists (Alan Jackson, Zac Brown Band) have been moving into the "Jimmy Buffet" genre.. It's about drinking and hanging out and having fun.. which is pretty much what hanging out at the lake is like.

Son of a Son of a Sailor - Jimmy Buffet

Jimmy Buffet is essential to all boat outings, period. I picked this one because it's my favorite, but Margaritaville, Desdemona, and Cheeseburger in Paradise, although cliche, are pretty much irresistible as well. Jimmy Buffet's specialty is creating that chill, "hey I'm on vacation, let's have a drink" mood.

Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson

Okay, I have a special bias, but Jack is totally awesome for the boat.. "In Between Dreams" is totally chill and awesome background music. It's acoustic-y, mellow, and perfect for just hanging out. I really don't think there could be a better album to listen to at the lake.

So yeah, there you go. A perfect mini-playlist for hanging out at the lake.
