Pensive Playlist

So, my playlist is just for thinking, when youre in that state of mind where you want to do nothing else but just sit there and ponder the day's or the week's events. I chose each song for a different reason, but one that applies to all songs is familiarity. I have listened to each over 100 times, and I think thats part of the reason they are good thinking songs: they stimulate the brain but don't preoccupy it with new lyrics or chords to learn.

The Riddle- Five for Fighting
A very touching song that reminds me that there are always more important things in life than whatever I might be concerned about.

Heartbreak Warfare- John Mayer
A very relaxing song. The kind you can listen to while you ponder something important. It induces an almost trance-like state.

Death and All His Friends- Coldplay
A beautiful melody that isn't too distracting with lyrics. Tension builds up and releases (definitely Brian Eno's influence), and by the end of the song, you are completely cool and relaxed. I can play it on the piano, which is an added memory attributed to this song in my mind.

Passenger- Onerepublic
This is currently my favorite song, for its pleasing melodies and chord progression. Coldplay-esque with the guitar parts overlapping the piano. I never get tired of the song and often don't even think about it as I sing along, leaving my mind free to wander.

I Dare You to Move- Switchfoot
The most upbeat song of the playlist blends rock with and excellent vocal performance. The tension built up in the final chorus leaves a perfect ending for the song and the playlist.
