Are They Accountable?
With all of the recent controversy over the Tiger Woods scandal, the issue has been raised as to whether professional athletes in the public eye are held to ethical standards. Sure everyone was shocked by Tiger Woods' behavior, but was it just because we didn't expect it from him? Plenty of professional athletes grace a Wheaties box in the morning and party hard at night. We don't pay them to be faithful to their wives and girlfriends; their fame and riches comes from their talent, combined occasionally with their looks. Or do they have the responsibility to be responsible, simply because kids look up to them? Does being rich and famous mandate good behavior, even though temptation lurks at every corner? It would be interesting to see how many people think celebrity athletes have a responsibility to behave. Personally, I admire athletes for what they do on the court or the field. What they do when they get home is their business, and it doesn't diminish their talent. Who gets their morals from Tiger Woods anyway?
