THE STYLE OF THOMAS L. BAILEY
Thomas A. Bailie's writing style is a reflection of practicality, eloquence, and wisdom. The man, who some revere as a prophet of his time, wrote largely for not his own pocket or even his own academic standing but for his blooming progeny (some rumors hold Mr. Bailie fathered as many as fourty seven illegitimate children). The dynamic author of more than ten editions of U.S. History textbooks, Mr. Bailie had had more than enough time to develop that style. Like a sparrow after his first awkward flutterings, it seems Mr. Bailey has finally grew his wings. Some notable and consistent features whould be noted in the writings. Number one, and arguably one of the most visual and defining, is the use of extensive metaphors. Mr. Bailee has at time compared the fledgeling America to a hawk spreading it s wings, Mr. Benjamin Franklin to a fertile rabbit, and the incredible Alexander Hamilton to a 18th century Rush Limbaugh. His style also reflects one of sincerity and frankness. Many textbook authors are afraid to comment on the alleged relationship of Thomas Jefferson to famous freed woman Harriet Tubman. This is not the case with Thomas N. Bailey. And thirdly, and possibly most admirably, Mr. Bailey is known for genial sense of humor.
